Counselling Experience

My experience in counselling has been working in private practice and, previously, for two counselling organisations in Yorkshire - Open Minds Counselling in Doncaster and Wellspring Therapy & Training, in Harrogate. Both of these organisations receive referrals from the NHS, GP’s, other charities, as well as from self-referring clients.

I provide counselling for a local Victim Support service dealing with young people who have been victims of violent or sexual crimes. I also have training and experience in providing counselling for those with a gambling addiction.

I also facilitate various reflective practice groups for helping professionals.

Prior to Counselling

Prior to training and qualifying as a counsellor, I have worked within large corporate organisations, the third sector and small start up companies, as well as being self employed overseas.

Having worked in both employee and management roles, I understand the issues involved in both these settings, and how they can impact on your mental and physical wellbeing.

Motivation

I have always been interested in understanding what makes us 'tick' as individuals, which is why I decided to train as a counsellor.

We all experience the world differently. The same issue, or situation can affect people in completely different ways, and I wanted to understand why, and how, our awareness of this could help develop personal resilience in stressful, or challenging times.

I have valued the time spent on my own experience of counselling, finding it a safe space where I could reflect on my on thoughts and feelings, without the influence and judgement of others.

I have a natural, relaxed approach and aim to help you feel as comfortable as possible.

Please get in touch if you have any questions about how I can help you.

I am fully insured and an accredited

member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy) , and I am guided by their Ethical Framework for Counselling Professions. You can find more about this here.

I attend regular supervision and update my knowledge and skills through continuing professional development,

workshops and courses.
