Why do people choose counselling and how can I help?

People decide to come to counselling for many different reasons, for example, a specific issue, such as anxiety, depression or relationship problems that are causing concern.

On the other hand, you may feel that you are not living the life you want and are uncertain how to get it.

However, I feel one of the main reasons is the need to talk to an objective person, confidentially. It can be useful to speak to a trained professional, who can be impartial and objective, as opposed to family and friends, who may wish to influence you with their own feelings and opinions.

Clients tell me this is one of the main aspects that they appreciate the most of our sessions, as well as an ability to see their situation with a new clarity.

Counselling can help you find your own inner voice, as well as your own capacity for strength and healing.

Often taking the first step is difficult; however the process of being listened to, attentively, with respect and without judgment, can have a profound impact on how you are able to manage and make sense of the difficulties that you may be experiencing, and in finding the solutions that you seek.

The process of therapy may not be able to change your situation or difficulties, but can help you realise your own inner strength in order to cope better and help you to make positive changes in your life.

I am happy to have an informal chat with you, if you are uncertain how I can help you with your concerns. Please feel free to get in touch if you have any questions.

I am now offering in person sessions at a convenient location in the centre of Harrogate.
